Les Gets Green

The Village Of Les Gets

Has:

A communal wood burning boilerhouse which heats most of the public buildings. The trees which are burned are also grown here and come from the managed forestry which dominates this area.

A waste disposal site with proper sorting of materials.

Recycling stations in most car parks.

Les Gets is moving towards a traffic free town centre and does provide free buses (and petit train in winter) so that you dont need a car when you are here even if you are staying outside the centre.

Artificial snow here has no chemical additives. Piste bashers use biodegradeable oil. The diesel backup generators on the Ranfoilly lift have been replaced with solar panels. Les Gets' ski lifts are certified to ISO 9001 - SaGets (the lift company) is working towards ISO 14001 certification (environmental).

Is one of the nearest ski resorts to the UK outside Scotland. 95% of french electricity is produced without burning fossil fuels. By coming here you can enjoy your holiday in the knowledge that this is a "low carbon" destination.

What we do

All year we recycle glass, cardboard, batteries and plastic containers. When the snow has gone we compost what we can. We save newspapers and wooden vegetable crates for lighting the fire with. Where possible we buy local produce and avoid purchasing products with unnecessary packaging.

The chalets are well insulated and we try to minimise our use of electricity, fuel oil (heating in Chalet du Coin) and water. (Les Gets has an acute water supply capacity shortfall in peak winter periods. We are not usually affected because our chalets are near the low point of the water system however some properties do suffer from "water cuts".)

How you can Help

Keep the windows shut when the heating is on. If you are hot, turn off the radiators where possible before considering opening the windows!

Do not let taps run unnecessarily.

Leave any rubbish so that it can be sorted easily by us. There is a battery recycling box in the lounge of each chalet.

Turn off lights when you are the last to leave any room. Note that we do leave low energy lights turned on in stairways at night.

Close the front door when you leave the building, even if you are not last out.

Unplug all electrical chargers and power consuming equipment eg TVs etc when they are not in use.

We do not wish you to reduce the level of comfort that we provide, merely to minimise waste!
